From RetroTech, the online museum of 20th century technology.
This Motorola model VT71 television set was used to watch the first broadcast from KLEE, Channel 2, in Houston on January 1, 1949. The 7-inch round picture tube was designed into a low-profile, low-cost wooden cabinet. It sold for a bargain price of $189.95 in 1949, or the equivalent of over $1,600 today. Larger (10-inch) sets cost twice as much at the time.
